Big changes to the blog for 2018
Hi Guys! Happy 2018!
I've never been one for New Year's resolutions...I'm more of a 'go with the flow' kind of gal. However, this year I do have one big goal...to grow this blog and make it more about YOU!
Yep, that's right...even though I will still be present on the blog, and will share with you what I'm up to, I'm going to spend more time this year writing designer interviews that reflect what YOU all are working on. I'm going to work to collaborate with members of our design community so that I can bring YOU richer, more helpful content. And I'm going to work on ways that I can support you on your creative journey, both as you work to overcome the worry, and anxiety that plague artists who are creating from their hearts, and as you put yourself out there to turn your passion into a legitimate creative business.
Now, I'm going to ask you to be patient with me, because these are some big goals (go big or go home, am I right?) so it may take me all of 2018 to figure out a good way to implement them. But, from the beginning this blog has been all about experimenting and embracing the fun that can come from trying out new things and learning as you go. So, jump on and lets go for a ride as I work to turn this blog into something that really represents YOU.
In the short-term, here are some changes you can expect to see on the blog in 2018:
More designer interviews. In fact, I will be transitioning the blog so that a majority of the posts are designer interviews. I think there is so much that we can learn from each other so I want to continue the trend on this blog of introducing you to new voices and new ideas. And to showing you how we can all learn from both established designers and newbies who have arrived on the scene. Each of us has a unique voice and a unique story to tell. I'm excited to share more of these stories with you in the coming year.
Fewer tips and how-tos. There are a lot of blogs and online classes out there that walk you through the steps of building a pattern, and help you navigate the technical side of the field. In light of this, I'm going to step back from writing those type of posts.
Fun collaborations. I'm excited to share with you that I am working on a special project with Ayat Elamrawy, who hosts the #patternweekly challenge on Instagram. I can't share details yet, but I think you will like what's coming. And as the year goes by I'm hoping to find more ways to collaborate with members of our creative community.
A regular contributor. OK, I am over the moon excited to make this announcement. Gin Das Neves, who you may know as The Happy Artisan on Instagram, will be joining the blog as a regular contributor. Back in September she wrote a beautiful blog post on vulnerability as part of our vulnerability in social media series, and recently she agreed to keep sharing her thoughts and perspective with us as part of a column titled 'Gin's Journey'. As a recent college graduate she'll be writing on the ups and downs, and the challenges, of finding a design job, establishing a creative voice, etc. I'm so excited to share her journey with you.
