Patterns Infused with Meaning Kick Ass

I've made lots and lots of patterns. Hundreds at this point. And one thing I've learned is that when I have a meaningful point of inspiration behind a pattern, when I can quite literally infuse it with meaning, it tends to kick ass. 

For example, I love these two patterns I created for my Mom. They bring to mind memories of my time with her and remind me of how special she was to me. When I designed these patterns, years apart from each other, they both flowed out of me effortlessly.

Full of Positivity

Lisa Hetrick, designer, illustrator and artist at Indigojade Art also creates kick ass artwork when inspired by something meaningful (although she probably wouldn't phrase it that way).

"When I begin to work on a new painting, commission or otherwise, I always come to the table with some kind of inspiration or story that informs the work. Many of my pieces are full of positivity and are created because I have been touched by a conversation or something that may be going on in a person’s life within my circle.

Creating art from this deep, emotional inspiration feels sacred, and my art becomes an expression of those feelings and/or the story I want to tell.

I feel like part of my purpose is to give it light and grace and send it up and out into the world. We could all use a little positivity in our lives and I believe that creating from this place of emotion can be very healing. "

Her Latest Work

As an example, here is a piece that Lisa is currently working on for a young woman who will be heading off to college this fall. Her mother, one of Lisa's biggest supporters, commissioned the work with the idea that the painting could cheering her daughter up when times are stressful.

"I am blessed to have watched this young woman grow from elementary school through today, and I felt honored to be asked to paint something special for her. Through our beginning conversations and collaboration we had during the painting process, I was able to get a real sense of what was going to make the painting special. It’s made the creation of this work so meaningful, a gift of grace."
